FAQs

Naturopathic Medicine & My Approach

What kinds of health concerns do you support?

I care for women across all stages of life, with a focus on hormonal transitions—perimenopause, menopause, fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and cycle-related concerns. I also address concerns like fatigue, low mood, sleep issues, metabolic health, bone density, thyroid function, and more.

What is a naturopathic doctor, and how are NDs trained?

NDs are regulated healthcare professionals in Alberta. We complete a four-year accredited naturopathic medical program after at least three years of undergraduate study. We also pass provincial and national licensing exams, meet continuing education requirements, and are governed under the Health Professions Act with all other regulated health care professionals.

Do you prescribe hormone therapy?

NDs in Alberta cannot currently prescribe hormones. However, I am trained in hormone therapy and happy to collaborate with your prescribing provider to create a well-rounded plan that supports your goals.

Will you just prescribe a bunch of supplements?

Strategic supplementation is just one piece of the puzzle. I also work with food, lifestyle, acupuncture, physical medicine, IV and injection therapies, and referrals when needed. I’ll only recommend what’s likely to help; this changes with time, age, and health status. My recommendations are strategic and not a blanket approach.

Will I need to cut everything out of my diet?

Nope. Nutrition is foundational to health, but my approach is focused on steady, sustainable changes that make sense for you. If there’s a medical reason to avoid something, we’ll talk about it, but I don’t believe in unnecessary restriction or fear-based food rules.

I see a lot of menopause and perimenopause talk on your website—do you work with other concerns too?

Yes! While my clinical focus is on hormonal transitions, I also support people through fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, thyroid conditions, mental health, burnout, fatigue, digestion, preventive care, as well as everyday colds and flus.

Treatment Tools

Do you offer acupuncture, and what can it help with?

Yes, I offer acupuncture as part of my naturopathic scope. I’ve completed four years of Traditional Chinese Medicine training as part of my ND program. Acupuncture can support fertility, IVF/IUI cycles, PMS, perimenopausal symptoms, stress, insomnia, pain, digestion, and more.

What treatments might be included in my care plan?

Depending on your needs, we may use clinical nutrition, botanical or nutraceutical support, lifestyle counseling, acupuncture, physical treatments, IV therapy, and more. Every plan is personalized to you.

I see you offer IVs and injection therapies. Can I book just for that?

IV and injection therapies are only offered to existing patients. It’s important to me that every treatment is safe, well-indicated, and personalized, which means getting to know you first.

Do I need to know what treatment I want before I book?

Not at all—that’s what I’m here for. We’ll explore your concerns together and build a plan that makes sense for you.

Working Together

What does working with you look like?

I offer non-judgmental care in a safe space where you can be open about your health, your life, and your goals. We’ll start with a 90-minute initial visit and build a personalized care plan based on your symptoms, needs, and values.

“I’m not sure if what I’m going through is serious enough to see someone.”

You don’t need to wait until things get “bad enough” to deserve support. Just because something isn’t serious doesn’t mean it’s something you have to live with. If you’re not feeling like yourself—tired, foggy, off, or just not right, that’s reason enough to reach out. The longer you push through without answers, the more it may cost you: in energy, joy, sleep, productivity, and peace of mind.

Do I need to stop seeing my doctor or specialist to work with you?

Not at all. I believe in collaborative care and am happy to work alongside your existing providers. You deserve a team.

How often will I need to come in?

This depends on your goals, the complexity of your case, and where you’re starting. Most patients have 4–6 visits in the first year and then move to 1–3 visits per year for maintenance and risk reduction.

What kind of session should I book first?

All new patients begin with a 90-minute initial visit. We’ll review your history, current concerns, and goals, and then decide next steps together.

Can you run blood tests or imaging? Are these covered by Alberta Health?

I can run bloodwork, pap tests, and other basic labs. These tests are not currently covered by Alberta Health when ordered by an ND, but may be reimbursed through private insurance. NDs in Alberta cannot order imaging (like X-rays or ultrasounds).

Do you offer virtual appointments? How do I attend one?

Yes! Virtual care is available for patients anywhere in Alberta. When you book, you’ll receive a secure link to my virtual waiting room. You can also find it on the “Links & Resources” page.

Lab testing is tailored to your case and may include bloodwork, pap exams, cultures, or other assessments. Lab fees are billed separately and not included in your appointment cost.

What happens when I start to feel like myself again?

This is one of my favourite questions to ask. When you feel like you again, you don’t just get through the day, you start dreaming again. You reconnect with what brings you joy, confidence, and meaning. You remember what it feels like to have energy in the morning, focus on your work, and laughter in your relationships. So yes, the journey takes commitment, but the outcome is a version of you that’s fully engaged in the life you’re meant to live.
